The Black-browed Babbler (Malacocincla perspicillata) is a mysterious songbird species in the family Timaliidae. It is endemic to Borneo. Only a single specimen, collected in the 19th century, is known. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. Its status is insufficiently known, though it is unlikely to be extinct. It was formerly classified as a Vulnerable by the IUCN. But new research has shown the lack of reliable information, while on the other hand some conjectural assumptions have been gleaned from the specimen, opening up new lines of research. Consequently, its status is changed to Data Deficient in 2008.
